November 17, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> November 14 was the only day since March 4 that Poland has not reported a single irregular border crossing attempt from Belarus, according to data from the country\u2019s border service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland was the primary target of irregular migration via Belarus in the past two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland thwarted 29 attempts on November 13, 39 on November 12, 19 on November 11, 14 on November 10, 23 on November 9 and 8 on November 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, the decrease in irregular border crossing was reported days before Poland reopened two border checkpoints on November 17. Polish officials said that the border was more secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust a few weeks before, [border guards] registered up to 100 attempts a day. Now they report a few [attempts a day] or a few dozen [attempts],\u201d the interior ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland has been building watchtowers along the physical border barrier. \u201cThis is important because criminal groups are looking for new methods [to cross the border], and we need to take preemptive action,\u201d the ministry stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first two weeks of November, Poland reported 261 attempts by undocumented migrants to cross the border, whereas Latvia registered a 64.8 percent year-on-year increase to 430 attempts. Poland has not been a priority for undocumented migrants for the first time in the last two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania has not reported a single attempt this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, the EU thwarted at least 41,851 irregular crossings via Belarus, 20.2 percent more year on year and 15.3 percent more than the total for all of 2024. Most of the attempts \u2013 28,696 \u2013 targeted Poland. Latvia reported 11,610 attempts and Lithuania, 1,545.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
