November 14, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Latvia registered 326 irregular crossing attempts via Belarus in the first 11 days of November, while Poland ranked second with 193 attempts, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland was the primary target of irregular migration via Belarus in the past two years, with a similar reversal of ranking recorded in October 2023, when it reported 2,221 attempts and Latvia, 2,866.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania has not reported irregular crossings this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From November 1 to 11, the neighboring EU countries did not allow at least 519 foreigners to cross irregularly, with attempts dropping 10.5 percent compared to early November 2024. However, tensions on the Belarusian-Latvian border surged 94 percent year on year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, the European Union has thwarted at least 41,679 irregular crossings via Belarus, 20.1 percent more year on year and 14.8 percent more than the total for all of 2024. Most of the attempts \u2013 28,628 \u2013 targeted Poland. Latvia reported 11,506 attempts and Lithuania, 1,545<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s number of irregular border crossings is roughly in line with 2023 levels, when 42,078 attempts were recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
