October 19, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Attempts by undocumented migrants to cross from Belarus into neighboring European Union countries have exceeded 40,000 since the beginning of 2025, according to data from their border services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From January 1 to October 17, 40,063 attempts were registered. Poland reported 27,879 attempts (69.6 percent); Latvia, 10,837 (27 percent); and Lithuania, 1,347 (3.4 percent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 164 attempts to enter the EU from Belarus were made on October 17, 111 on October 16 and 110 on October 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compared with January\u2013September 2024 and the first 17 days of October, thwarted entries rose by 20.2 percent, including by 0.4 percent in the Polish sector. The figure increased by a factor of 2.2 in Latvia and by a factor of 1.9 in Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the whole of 2024, European border guards documented a combined total of 36,291 incidents involving third-country nationals. Thus, irregular migration has already spiked by 10.4 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it is still below the 2023 level, when 42,078 attempts were stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
