October 13, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian human rights activists reported new cases of political reprisals between October 11 and 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Viasna center, 107 people have been recognized as political prisoners since the beginning of September. In total, the center is aware of more than 7,000 defendants in politically motivated criminal cases since 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Independent observers have documented more than 6,000 violations of cultural and human rights affecting nearly 1,900 cultural figures, Belarusian PEN president Ta\u0107ciana Niadbaj stated at a thematic event during the OSCE Warsaw Human Dimension Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Human rights activists have confirmed the detention of 88 people over links to the Bie\u0142aruski Hajun resistance group, Viasna reported. The total number of detainees is significantly higher, the center added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former political prisoner Ihar \u0141osik said that on August 3, he had met with current political prisoner Eduard Pal\u010dys, a journalist sentenced to 13 years in a penal colony. According to \u0141osik, he refused to sign a petition for pardon or to be filmed for an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of October 13, human rights defenders identified at least 1,220 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
