October 6, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Belarus and Oman have signed a memorandum of cooperation to build a pulp and cardboard mill, the state media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total investment for the project is estimated at $1.4 billion. The facility\u2019s production capacity is expected to reach around 800,000 tons per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made during Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq\u2019s visit to Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the talks, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka stated that Omani investments in wood processing \u201cwill help use Belarus\u2019 natural resources more efficiently.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Negotiations also resulted in the signing of a roadmap for bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Oman, as well as intergovernmental agreements on mutual visa abolition and international road transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A memorandum of understanding was concluded between the supreme courts of the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, there is one pulp producer in Belarus: the \u015aviet\u0142ahorsk Pulp and Cardboard Mill in the Homiel region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 17, Forestry Minister Alaksandar Kulik announced plans to build another mill in Dubro\u016dna, Viciebsk region. The project is planned to be implemented with foreign capital within about five years, the official said at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
