October 3, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Katrin aus dem Siepen took over as head of the German embassy in Belarus, the embassy said on Facebook yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat and her husband arrived in Minsk just ahead of German Unity Day celebrated on October 3 and marking 35 years since Germany\u2019s unification in 1990. She replaces Andrea Wiktorin, who completed her tenure as Germany\u2019s charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires in Belarus in mid-July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to her appointment in Minsk, aus dem Siepen headed the political department of the German embassy in France and worked for the German foreign and defense ministries. From 2006 to 2009, she served in the political department of the German embassy in Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union countries are represented at the charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires level in Belarus following the crackdown on 2020 postelection protests and politically-motivated reprisals that followed. Hungary and Slovakia are the two EU countries represented by ambassadors in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
