September 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) represent a \u201cdouble-edged sword\u201d despite opening \u201cunimaginable prospects for development across nearly all spheres of human activity,\u201d Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d told the UN Security Council in New York yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the key challenges is \u201cthe so-called collective West\u2019s efforts to sideline other nations in the development and control of artificial intelligence, under the belief that it will ensure their military and economic superiority,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn essence, a new curtain is being drawn \u2013 not ideological this time, but technological, a silicon curtain \u2013intended to divide the West from the rest of the world,\u201d the foreign ministry\u2019s unofficial Telegram channel quoted Ry\u017eanko\u016d as saying. \u201cThe rest of the world is the global majority, which some now seek to push back into a new form of neocolonialism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This would be \u201ca path to nowhere, or worse, into the abyss for humanity,\u201d the diplomat said, stressing that AI \u201cmust belong to all nations without exception\u201d to ensure prosperity and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UN General Assembly is convening for its 80th session from September 23 to 29. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
