September 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Jailed Polish minority activist and journalist Andrej Pa\u010dobut (Andrzej Poczobut) is mentally well and receives medications, said An\u017ealika Borys (And\u017celika Borys), head of the unofficial Union of Poles in Belarus. She met Pa\u010dobut at Penal Colony No. 1 in Navapo\u0142ack, Viciebsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Borys, the meeting became possible after her appeal to Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAndrej sends warm greetings to everyone, friends and strangers alike,\u201d Borys said on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pa\u010dobut thanked everyone for remembering him and said that God will show everyone their path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe also conveyed that the Union of Poles in Belarus is not for confrontation, but for preserving and caring for Polishness,\u201d Borys added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also today, Gazeta Wyborcza<\/em> reported that its correspondent Pa\u010dobut had been nominated for the Sakharov Prize, which it described as the EU’s most important human rights award. \u201cAndrej Pa\u010dobut angered \u0141uka\u0161enka with his uncompromising stance toward the regime he wrote about in his articles,\u201d the Polish newspaper said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pa\u010dobut has been at the center of tension between Minsk and Warsaw. Relations between Belarus and Poland, already strained by irregular migration and Belarus\u2019 refusal to release Pa\u010dobut, have worsened this month following the arrest of Polish national Grzegorz Gawe\u0142 in Lepel, Viciebsk region, the expulsion of a Belarusian diplomat from Poland and an unprecedented incursion of Russian military drones into Polish territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
