September 19, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Minsk has given a Czech diplomat 72 hours to leave the country, a Telegram channel affiliated with the Belarusian foreign ministry reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move comes after earlier, Prague announced the expulsion of a Belarusian diplomat earlier this month over alleged abuse of diplomatic cover for espionage. The incident took place as part a crackdown on a Belarusian spy network, carried out in cooperation with the secret services of Hungary and Romania. Poland and Moldova also expelled Belarusian diplomats this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Czechia reportedly expelled administrative advisor Mika\u0142aj Duk\u0161ta, a position in Belarusian embassies that is typically held by an officer of the Committee for State Security (KGB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian foreign ministry condemned the expulsions by Prague and Warsaw and vowed to retaliate. The reciprocal expulsion should bring an end to \u201cthis diplomatic incident,\u201d it said today but warned of \u201cappropriate action\u201d if the situation escalates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tensions between Belarus and the European Union intensified in the run-up to Zapad-2025, a major Belarusian-Russian military exercise that took place in both countries from September 12 to 16. The Baltic states reinforced border protections, while Poland closed the border with Belarus ahead of the drill over security threat and still has not reopened it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
