{"id":152943,"date":"2025-08-28T20:37:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T17:37:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/152943\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"belarusian-biathletes-not-to-participate-in-2026-winter-olympics","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/152943\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarusian biathletes not to participate in 2026 Winter Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 28,&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong>&nbsp;Belarusian biathletes will not take part in next year\u2019s Winter Olympic Games in at Milano-Cortina 2026, based on the allocation of quota places by the International Biathlon Union (IBU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With less than six months to go until the Olympic biathlon competition begins, 186 of the 210 Olympic quota places have already been awarded to National Olympic Committees (NOCs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 93 men&#8217;s and 93 women\u2019s quotas were awarded to the NOCs of the teams ranked 1-20 in the 2024\/2025 final men\u2019s and women\u2019s World Cup Nations Cup scores. Nations which finished between 1st and 3rd secured their NOC six quotas, nations finishing between 4th and 10th secured five quota spots for their NOCs and those finishing 11th to 20th won their NOCs four quotas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The remaining 24 places \u2013 12 men and 12 women \u2013 will be awarded individually based on the IBU qualifying points list as of 18 January 2026, following the BMW IBU World Cup in Ruhpolding (GER).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only athletes who are eligible to compete in IBU competitions and who represent NOCs that have not already secured quotas via the World Cup Nations Cup score will be able to qualify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IBU event and competition rules do not provide a rule for neutral athlete participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Winter Olympics Games will be held from February 6 to February 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Russia invaded Ukraine from Belarus in February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) urged sports federations to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It later recommended that some could be allowed as neutral athletes under certain conditions, such as not supporting the war. In December 2023, the IOC allowed neutrals to compete in the 2024 Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belarusian government has been accused of discriminating against hundreds of athletes who spoke out against violence and rigged election in 2020.
