August 18, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Jura\u015b Ziankovi\u010d, a Belarusian-American lawyer who spent four years in the regime\u2019s prisons, has called US President Donald Trump “a very strong negotiator and businessman.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a press conference in Warsaw, Pozirk <\/em>asked Ziankovi\u010d to comment on the US president’s communication with Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attorney said Trump \u201cknows that sometimes, in order to achieve a result, you need to say a few nice words to your conversation partner.\u201d \u201cIt costs him nothing,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf 1,300 people get out in exchange for him calling \u0141uka\u0161enka a great leader, I think this is an absolutely normal price to pay,\u201d Ziankovi\u010d asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the issue of Belarusian political prisoners \u201chas been elevated to the highest international level.\u201d \u201cThe president of the United States, the world\u2019s greatest and most powerful country, is personally interested in freeing our fellow citizens,\u201d he added. \u201cI think that this is a wonderful manifestation of international solidarity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am personally grateful to President Trump for these steps: for my personal release, for his measures to release the other 15 people, and for actively participating in the campaign to release those political prisoners who are still behind the regime\u2019s bars,\u201d the former prisoner stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ziankovi\u010d said he was released \u201cthanks to international pressure and solidarity, Mr. John Coale, deputy to the US President\u2019s special envoy Keith Kellogg, and the State Department staff.\u201d \u201c\u0141uka\u0161enka was forced to free me,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
