August 15, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> US President Donald Trump and Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka have had a telephone conversation, the Belarusian strongman\u2019s office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe two leaders discussed issues pertaining to the bilateral agenda, regional matters, and the situation in hot spots, including Ukraine. An agreement was reached to continue contacts. The Belarusian president invited Donald Trump and his family to Minsk, and the invitation was accepted,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his social network Truth Social, Trump confirmed the conversation with \u201cthe highly respected President of Belarus,\u201d calling it \u201ca wonderful talk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Trump, the purpose of the call was to thank \u0141uka\u0161enka for freeing 16 prisoners recently. \u201cWe are also discussing the release of 1,300 additional prisoners. Our conversation was a very good one. We discussed many topics, including President Putin\u2019s visit to Alaska,\u201d the US president said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded by saying that he looks forward to meeting with \u0141uka\u0161enka in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, on August 13, the US Department of State issued a country report stating that there had been no significant change in Belarus\u2019 human rights situation in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trump-Putin summit is expected to start later today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
