August 11, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Belarusian Prosecutor General\u2019s Office says that it has sent to court a case against 55 suspected members of an international fraud group targeting people in different countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group stationed its \u201ccall centers\u201d in Belarus, Russia and Kyrgyzstan. The damage from its activities is estimated at more than 2.5 million rubels ($758,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe perpetrators posted false information on the Internet on prospects for profitable investment in non-existent finance companies,\u201d the prosecutors said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Group members contacted curious investors and, in various ways, encouraged them to transfer as much money as possible. \u201cAs soon as an investor willed to withdraw his profits, his request was denied under various pretexts,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To investigate the fraud, inspectors formed three groups comprising officers from Belarus, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially, law enforcers took 48 people into custody. However, the measure of restraint was later changed \u201cto a more lenient one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the investigation, pre-trial cooperation agreements were concluded with 49 defendants. \u201cThe cooperation they gave to the early investigators of the crimes is of substantial importance for the criminal case,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
