{"id":149630,"date":"2025-08-05T12:37:52","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T09:37:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/149630\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"government-propaganda-guidebook-emphasizes-belarusians-tolerance-to-disguise-repression","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/149630\/","title":{"rendered":"Government propaganda guidebook emphasizes Belarusians\u2019 tolerance to disguise repression"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 5,\u00a0<em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0Belarus\u2019 propaganda machine invokes traditional Belarusian values of tolerance and justifies repressive policies, creating \u201ccognitive dissonance\u201d among people with critical thinking, said Pa\u016dluk Byko\u016dski, a <em>Media IQ<\/em> analyst, commenting on a new guidebook for political information officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The booklet describes Belarus as \u201ca hospitable, religiously tolerant \u2018tavern\u2019 at the geopolitical intersection of military and trade routes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt should accommodate everyone, feed anyone, reconcile everyone without letting anyone walk all over,\u201d says the guidebook released by the Scientific Research Institute of State Governance Theory and Practice affiliated with the Management Academy under the President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The text implements two mutually exclusive communication strategies: that of rapprochement by presenting Belarus as \u201ca hospitable, religiously tolerant \u2018tavern\u2019\u201d open for everyone, and that of isolation by presenting it as a besieged fortress threatened by external enemies and internal traitors, Byko\u016dski said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201creligiously tolerant \u2018tavern\u2019\u201d metaphor disguises the repressive nature of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime notorious for the persecution of Catholic and Orthodox priests, Protestant leaders, religious communities, dissidents and the critical media, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guidebook describes the 2020 mass peaceful protests against election fraud as \u201ca failed color mutiny\u201d orchestrated by the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Byko\u016dski noted that propaganda used the term \u201ccolor revolutions\u201d before to refer to transition from authoritarianism allegedly inspired by external actors. \u201cMutiny\u201d is a more pessimistic word that implies the lack of a chance of success, he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guidebook traditionally sings praises of \u0141uka\u0161enka, who has ruled the country for over three decades, and demonizes his political opponents as \u201cWestern puppets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe successful development of the Republic of Belarus was possible thanks to the titanic labor of our compatriots and, certainly, the calculated decisions of the Belarusian leader,\u201d it says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnder the guidance of the Head of State we did not ruin but preserved and multiplied our industrial potential\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnder the guidance of the Head of State we properly safeguard our scientific and technological sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 5,\u00a0Pozirk.\u00a0Belarus\u2019 propaganda machine invokes traditional Belarusian values of tolerance and justifies repressive policies, creating \u201ccognitive dissonance\u201d among people with critical thinking, said Pa\u016dluk Byko\u016dski, a Media IQ analyst, commenting on a new guidebook for political information officers.
