July 30, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Polish Tax and Customs Service (TCS) in Ma\u0142aszewicze, a dry port near the Belarusian border, has stopped the smuggling of cigarettes bearing Belarusian excise stamps, the Lublin Tax and Customs Office in Bia\u0142a Podlaska said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The market value of the cargo is estimated at 1.4 million zlotys, or about $380,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cigarettes were in two railway containers that had arrived in Poland on freight trains from China. Each container stored 40,000 cigarette packs hidden among legally imported goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lublin office launched an investigation. The smuggled cigarettes were sent to a warehouse of the National Revenue Administration (NRA). Once  confiscated by court order, they will be destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, the NRA reported an inspection of three trucks traveling from Russia to Poland via Latvia and Lithuania. The check revealed five million Belarusian cigarettes without excise stamps at the bottom of cardboard boxes containing onions and beets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
