July 27, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The European Union (EU) has faced a new wave of illegal migration, caused by the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Africa, the Middle East and Afghanistan, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (FISU) said yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPolitical regimes with experience in using migrants as a geopolitical tool are again in the spotlight,\u201d the FISU said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne of these regimes is that of the Belarusian dictator \u0141uka\u0161enka, who is once again using his territory to transit illegal migrants to Poland. Some flows come from Libya, either directly or via Russia, which indicates coordination between Minsk and Moscow,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It traced this scenario back to the 2021 crisis, when \u201c\u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime organized a mass infiltration of migrants onto EU borders in an attempt to trade a reduction in tension for the lifting of sanctions.\u201d \u201cThis blackmail did not work. The restrictions only increased, and Minsk\u2019s diplomatic isolation deepened,\u201d the service asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDespite his total dependence on the Kremlin, \u0141uka\u0161enka is acting flexibly. Today, he continues to make money on the transit of migrants but avoids outright escalation\u2014so as not to lose his remaining political contacts in Europe, particularly in Hungary, which consistently opposes migration,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the FISU, migration on the EU\u2019s eastern border <\/strong>heightens\u00a0the risks to European security, and \u0141uka\u0161enka demonstrates his willingness to use it for political pressure on the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
