July 11, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The interior ministry has added 45 new names to the list of \u201cpersons involved in extremist activities,\u201d taking the total of entries to 5,511, its website says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of them were prosecuted on charges that authorities usually use to persecute their political opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list includes Ihar Halco\u016d, D\u017amitryj Chamianko\u016d, Ivan Ka\u010dana\u016d and A\u0142a Ju\u0161kievi\u010d convicted on charges ranging from inciting hatred to financing extremist activities and violent disorder. Rights groups consider their persecution to be politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other additions are Ja\u016dhien \u0160lachcionak and D\u017amitryj \u010cys\u0142o\u016d, persecuted on extremism-related charges and for allegedly calling for sanctions; Valancina Ko\u016dziel, D\u017amitryj \u0160achno\u016d, Ihar \u017dy\u0142aviec and Rus\u0142an Linnik convicted of inciting hatred; U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d \u0160kurski, Siarhiej Li\u0107vinka, Dzianis Raman\u010duk, Andrej Androna\u016d, Alaksandar Ryb\u010danka and Juryj Andrukin, who faced protest- and defamation-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences of 29 individuals remain incomplete, the ministry said, implying that they may serve non-custodial sentences. Most of them were found guilty of violent disorder, which may be linked to their participation in the 2020 postelection protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are: Natalla and Ivan \u0160aternik, Natalla Sia\u0144ko, Anastasija P\u0142avinskaja, Siarhiej Bahdanovi\u010d, Via\u010das\u0142a\u016d Ba\u0142duje\u016d, Ihar Miranovi\u010d, Hienad\u017a \u0141uka\u0161evi\u010d, Juryj and Hanna Zajac, U\u0142dzis\u0142a\u016d Ilju\u0161\u010danka, Raman Karpovi\u010d, Ja\u016dhien and Eduard Va\u0144kovi\u010d, Natalla Karolka, Iryna Nalivajka, Mika\u0142aj Ratabylski and Volha Ratabylskaja, Arciom Sieradzienka, Raman Kniha, Viktar Kale\u015bnika\u016d, Vadzim Pajvin, Andrej Sacura, Valeryj Marcin\u010dyk, Ihar Ka\u0142pa\u010dko\u016d, U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Artynsky, Michai\u0142 Truchanovi\u010d, Mika\u0142aj Davydzienka nad Natalla Mura\u016djova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
