July 3, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The European Court of Justice has dismissed an appeal by the Hrodna Azot nitrogen fertilizer producer and Chimva\u0142akno chemical plant, leaving the European Union’s sanctions against them in force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brussels sanctioned both companies in 2021, punishing the management\u2019s politically-motivated reprisals against employees during the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests and financing Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lower General Court upheld the sanctions in 2024, but the companies appealed the decision to the Court of Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU sent a \u201cclear and unambiguous signal\u201d that financing reprisals will have consequences, opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka commented on the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The international community continues to stand by the side of the Belarusian people in their aspiration for freedom and justice,” he said on Telegram, noting that “\u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime is driving itself deeper into financial isolation, while its actions to infringe on the rights of citizens are causing more significant losses.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
