July 2, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The District Court of Bia\u0142ystok has sentenced seven Georgians to prison accused of transporting undocumented migrants who entered Poland from Belarus, the Polish Border Guard reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group was active from December 2022 to April 2023, picking up foreigners on the Polish side of the border and taking them by car to the Polish-German border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news comes as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called for tougher measures to stop asylum seekers and reintroduced controls at his country\u2019s borders with Lithuania and Germany on July 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the European Union surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that foreigners were traveling to the EU because they were \u201cinvited there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start 2025, the EU has not allowed at least 20,000 people to cross illegally from Belarus with nearly 14,000 crossings reported by Poland alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
