June 21, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has pardoned his opponent Siarhiej Cichano\u016dski purely out of humanitarian considerations to help him reunite with his exiled family, Natalla Ejsmant, the Belarusian ruler\u2019s spokeswoman, has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka pardoned 14 people convicted on extremism- and terrorism-related charges at a request of the US President Donald Trump, the Pul Pervogo<\/em> Telegram channel cited her as saying. Most of them are foreign nationals: two Japanese, three Poles, two Latvians as well as citizens of Estonia, Sweden and the US, along with some Belarusians, she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prisoners were released after Keith Kellogg, Trump\u2019s special envoy for Ukraine, met with Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka in Minsk. Cichano\u016dski and some others were immediately taken to Vilnius. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The talks started yesterday evening and lasted for six and a half hours, covering American and European sanctions on Belarus, the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East and Belarus\u2019 relations with Russia and China, The New York Times <\/em>reported<\/a>, citing Ejsmant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from Cichano\u016dski, the group of 14 released prisoners includes\u00a0former\u00a0Radio Free Europe\/Radio Liberty<\/em>\u00a0journalist Ihar Karniej, prominent linguist Natalla Dulina, anarchist activist Akichira Haje\u016dski-Chanada, dual Belarusian-Swedish citizen Halina Kra\u015bnianskaja, businessman Siarhiej \u0160elieh, opposition activist Kiry\u0142 Ba\u0142achona\u016d as well as Estonian Allan Roio and Latvians Jurijs Ga\u0146ins and Dmitrijs Mihailovs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw also confirmed that three Poles have been freed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
