June 12, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Prices of domestically grown vegetables spiked in Belarus last month amid shortages, with white cabbage prices growth exceeding 45 percent, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2019s analysis of the National Statistics Committee\u2019s (Bie\u0142stat) data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Onion prices rose by 39.5 percent, beets, by 32 percent; carrots, by 26.5 percent and potatoes, by 26 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since January, cabbage prices have more than doubled, while prices for onions, carrots, beets and potatoes have risen by around 70 percent. Food prices in Belarus rose by 1.2 percent in May and 5.5 percent since the start of the year. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late 2024, the government introduced licensing for potato exports with similar restrictions for exports of cabbage, apples, onions, carrots and beets following in early 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late May, Belarusian authorities lifted the ban on imports of potatoes, onions, white cabbages and apples from \u201cunfriendly countries\u201d to address shortages. Apple prices rose by about 6 percent in May and 35 percent since January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
