June 2, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Officials in charge of the Brest district’s territorial troops have started a three-day command staff exercise, the defense ministry’s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drill is designed to improve officers’ commanding skills in leading territorial defense forces and ensuring their interoperability with regular military units, it noted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The command staff exercise is part of a wider drill involving the Brest district\u2019s reservists who have training since May 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Territorial troops, an auxiliary part of the Armed Forces, are formed in times of war or military-political tension of reservists with military training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin announced that territorial defense \u201cis being transformed from a support system into a full-fledged combat one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army is regularly conducting drills amid tensions with the West and Russia\u2019s full-scale war against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
