May 6, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A group of foreigners attempting an irregular crossing into the European Union via Belarus yesterday injured a Polish border guard with a stone and damaged his vehicle, the Polish Border Guard said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The serviceman’s life is not in danger, it noted. The incident was reported as Poland did not allow more than 80 people to cross irregularly, rounding up eight travelers. A few weeks ago, another similar attack took place at the Polish-Belarusian border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2024, media reported the death of Polish soldier Mateusz Sitek, who was stabbed while on patrol duty by a man who attempted to cross illegally\u00a0from Belarus as part of a large group. Minsk has refused to cooperate with Warsaw in the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU has thwarted more than 9,600 irregular border crossings by third-country foreigners via Belarus since the start of 2025, with at least 6,500 attempts targeting Poland alone, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2019s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
