April 28, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Spare parts for logging machinery are sanctioned as dual-use products, Forestry Minister Alaksandar Kulik told the state-run Belarus 1<\/em> TV channel yesterday.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian forestry sector uses 488 harvesters for tree felling and the same number of forwarders for collection, sorting and delivery of the logs to roadside landings or warehouses, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This machinery was used to harvest 1.3 million cubic meters of timber last year, the official added, implying that the mechanization rate reached 65 percent. The country needs dozens of these vehicles, he added, noting that they are very expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar Luka\u0161enka and the government prioritize equipment maintenance and expansion of production capacity, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, the Belarusian ruler indicated that Amkador, a major Belarusian manufacturer of construction and logging equipment, was in trouble. \u201cWe should bring this enterprise to its senses. Under no circumstances should we ruin it,\u201d he said, noting that the company had great prospects in Belarus and Russia, while Kulik stressed that the logging industry could not get by without Amkador\u2019s equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, democratic countries have imposed multiple restrictions on Belarus over human rights abuses, alleged vote rigging in the 2020 presidential election, a brutal crackdown on protesters, the forced landing of a Ryanair flight, a migration crisis at the European Union border, as well as support of Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
