April 18, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> U\u0142adzimir Piarco\u016d, deputy head of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s administration, has attacked Western countries in his address to students and lecturers at an economic university in Minsk during a monthly government-sponsored propaganda event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNazism and the descendants of those fascists of the 1940s are coming back to power and are raising their banners and slogans, trying to organize a second ‘march against the East,’\u201d state-run media outlets quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe understand that these heirs of fascists simply waited for a convenient moment when [our World War II] veterans passed away . . . to actively start spreading their alternative history, fakes, outright nonsense and lies, including with the help of new means of communication,\u201d Piarco\u016d claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His comments came just a day after MP Via\u010das\u0142a\u016d Dani\u0142ovi\u010d accused the United Kingdom and France of authorizing the attack by Nazi Germany on the Soviet Union in 1941.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian authorities have been exploiting the theme ahead of the 80th anniversary of victory over the Nazi Germany. Official manuals prescribe propaganda officers to make a connection between victory in the Second World War and alleged threats from NATO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manuals stress the failure of a unipolar world and instruct propagandist to talk about a \u201cnew world order.\u201d Current developments are described in the context of \u201cincreased militarization” of neighboring states that are accused of hostile intentions amid “ongoing attempts by the West to destabilize Belarus.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
