April 17, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The United Kingdom and France authorized the attack by Nazi Germany on the Soviet Union in 1941, Via\u010das\u0142a\u016d Dani\u0142ovi\u010d, an MP and a former head of the Institute of History at the Academy of Sciences, has said at a state-sponsored event in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nazi Germany \u201cdid not appear on its own and acquired the power to march to the East,\u201d said Dani\u0142ovi\u010d, who is serving as a deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on education, culture and science at the lower chamber. “It was nurtured by the so-called leading Western democracies, Western countries – the United States, United Kingdom and France.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These countries \u201cinvested huge sums of money in boosting the German economy, granted it preferential treatment in the international arena and handed Czechoslovakia and Poland over to Germany,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Western democracies allegedly did it to undermine the Soviet Union, which represented an alternative to capitalism, Dani\u0142ovi\u010d added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MP believes that the damage caused to Belarus by the occupation during WW2 amounts to about $2.3 trillion and supports a possible claim for compensation against Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government started instrumentalizing WW2 and memory politics following the 2020 political crisis in Belarus in an attempt to discredit the opposition by tying its symbols to Nazi collaborators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Courts held series of trials targeting dead perpetrators of war crimes against Belarusians, while the government promoted the theory that the Belarusians suffered genocide at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators during WW2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk plans grand celebrations of the 80th<\/sup> anniversary of Nazi Germany\u2019s defeat in WW2 with more than 24 ceremonial units and aircraft expected to participate in the military parade on May 9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka will also attend May 9 celebrations in Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
