April 14, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The defense ministry has recorded 128 violations of Belarusian airspace since the start of 2025, yet Belarusian air defenses downed only 18 drones, Andrej \u0141ukjanovi\u010d, commander of the Belarusian Air\/Air Defense Forces, told the state-run STV <\/em>yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defense Minister Viktar Chenin ordered modernized anti-aircraft missile systems for Air\/Air Defense Forces, the report noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drones have been regularly spotted in Belarus since mid-2024 as Russians attack Ukraine, yet officials do not usually comment on the incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a rare instance a few weeks ago, Deputy Interior Minister Mika\u0142aj Karpianko\u016d spoke about frequent combat drone incursions and the inability of Belarusian defense systems to cope with this type of UAVs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey [drones] fall just between the buildings, they fall on the roads with 50-60 meters [of distance] to the houses. . . But, you know, they do not explode,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late February, a Russian drone reportedly hit a high-voltage power line and caused a large-scale heat outage in the Homiel region\u2019s Mazyr. The incident was the first confirmed case of damage to the Belarusian energy system by drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that Belarusian air defenses shoot down UAVs regardless of their Russian or Ukrainian origin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, authorities refused to introduce additional security measures in Homiel region\u2019s Chojniki district, whose residents signed a petition to express concern about their children\u2019s safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
