April 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The United Kingdom wants to strengthen cooperation to help combat criminal gangs smuggling migrants, Nick Thomas-Symonds, the British minister for EU relations, said after visiting the Polish-Belarusian border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Poland is one of the UK\u2019s longstanding allies, and ties between our countries run deep,” the politician said in a video posted on X. “Together we can make progress to tackle big issues from [Vladimir] Putin\u2019s aggression to smashing the vile people smuggling gangs and fighting organized crime.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on London\u2019s strategic alliance with the EU will ensure safety while law enforcers could benefit from access to tools that they need, he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the European Union recorded 36,300 irregular border crossings at its shared border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recent report by the Oxfam and Egala rights groups cited evidence of pushbacks and violence on both sides of the Belarus-EU border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
