{"id":133561,"date":"2025-04-09T15:56:27","date_gmt":"2025-04-09T12:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/133561\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"latvia-set-to-ban-belarusians-russians-nationals-from-buying-real-estate","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/133561\/","title":{"rendered":"Latvia set to ban Belarusians, Russians nationals from buying real estate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>April 9, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A bill, prepared for the second reading in the Latvian Saeima, calls for a complete ban on the purchase of real estate in the country for all Belarusian and Russian nationals, senior justice official Lauma Paeglkalna said on <em>Latvijas Radio 4<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Lsm.lv, the bill is aimed at preventing uncontrolled influence on the economy by the influx of foreigners into Latvia and the use of foreign capital and nationals against Latvian interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who already own real estate may keep it and it is also eligible for inheritance, Paeglkalna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The original bill, tabled by the New Unity party, stated that the ban on real estate transactions will not apply to European Union residents or people with a permanent residence in Latvia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, in January, media reported that the Latvian Ministry of the Interior prepared amendments to the national security law to prohibit citizens of Belarus and Russia from holding positions in critical infrastructure management bodies and key infrastructure facilities critical for Europe as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was also reported that 1,302 foreign nationals, including 401 Russians and 137 Belarusians, were denied entry to Latvia &#8220;for security reasons&#8221; in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/ru\/news\/132839\/\">Latvian legislature passes new entry requirements for Belarusians<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 9, Pozirk.
