April 6, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Warsaw has put into operation an electronic barrier on the shared border with Belarus, the Polish interior ministry has said on X, following an earlier report of the border fence breach by 22 foreigners attempting an irregular crossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move ensures state-of-the-art monitoring of the entire section of the Polish-Belarusian border in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, the agency noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The construction of the electronic barrier was completed in early February. It includes more than 500 posts and 1,300 cameras on the Istoczanka and \u015awis\u0142ocz rivers near the border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw spent 85 million zlotys (about \u20ac19.5 million) on the 47-kilometer long barrier to prevent irregular crossings via Belarus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, Poland has not allowed at least 4,100 people to cross irregularly via Belarus, while Latvia and Lithuania have foiled 476 and 221 attempts, respectively, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2018s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the European Union recorded at least 36,291 irregular border crossings at its shared border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recent report by the Oxfam and Egala rights groups cited evidence of pushbacks and violence on both sides of the Belarus-EU border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
