April 4, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The seventh presidential election in Belarus in late January did not meet democratic standards and cannot be considered a reliable reflection of the will of the Belarusian people, portalsamorzadowy.pl<\/em> reports, citing a resolution adopted today by Polish MPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 431 MPs supported the resolution, with two against and no abstentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document stressed the need for a free and sovereign Belarus as one of the key pillars of stability and security in the region, opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, who was present at the Sejm session, said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish MPs backed exiled Belarusian pro-democracy forces that keep promoting a democratic transformation of Belarus and its European aspirations, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 seventh presidential election on January 21-26 took place in a purged political landscape amid a new wave of crackdown on regime critics. Belarus\u2019 election authorities have declared Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, in power since 1994, winner with 86.82 percent of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The election has drawn severe criticism for the lack of transparency and repressive environment as a number of democratic countries and exiled Belarusian opposition have dismissed it as a sham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
