April 1, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian law enforcers confirmed the arrests of the head of the Belarusian Railways (BR) transportation unit, his deputy and the first deputy head of the transportation management center in late 2024, the interior ministry’s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All three worked with another top manager arrested last summer on suspicion of accepting bribes of about $3 million, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency has not disclosed their names, but most likely it referred to Vital Paniu\u0161enka, his deputy Fiodar \u0160ulanko\u016d and Alaksandar Ivano\u016d, whose arrests were reported by an unofficial community of railway workers last October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier that year, the group also said that Piatro Du\u0142ub, the BR\u2019s first deputy head, Siarhiej Sizin and Siarhiej Navadvorski, the BR\u2019s chief engineer, were arrested on corruption charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators, who filed six criminal cases, said that the suspects had received bribes “amounting to tens of thousands of rubels\u201d for three years from private companies to facilitate the allocation of railway transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspects are held at a pre-trial detention center and are reportedly cooperating with the investigators. If convicted, they may face up to 15 years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
