March 23, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The opposition transition cabinet led by \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja has awarded eight persons for their contributions to the Belarusian cause, it said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siarhiej Dubaviec, a prominent author, journalist and publisher, was distinguished with the Cross of the Revival of Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian Vytis Jurkonis of the Freedom House, Polish rights defender Pawe\u0142 Kazanecki, Belarusian journalist \u0179micier \u0141uka\u0161uk and IT engineer Pavie\u0142 Libier have been awarded for outstanding achievements in professional and public activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transition cabinet also awarded medals to popular musician Lavon Volski and journalist Ksiejnija \u0141uckina, a victim of politically-motivated reprisals in Belarus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawyer Alaksandar Varapaje\u016d received the Honor and Dignity medal for \u201crisking his life in the fight for freedom, national values, democracy and human rights.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freedom Day, celebrated on March 25, is a major opposition holiday marking the anniversary of Belarus\u2019 short-lived independence in 1918.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current Belarusian government does not recognize Freedom Day as an official holiday. After 2020 presidential election, any attempts to publicly celebrate anniversaries led to arrests, trials and jail terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
