{"id":129417,"date":"2025-03-10T20:15:04","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T17:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/129417\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:40:57","slug":"minsk-backs-draft-deal-with-russia-to-protect-officials-from-international-prosecution","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/129417\/","title":{"rendered":"Minsk backs draft deal with Russia to protect officials from international prosecution"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>March 10, <em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus has approved a draft agreement with Russia on protecting their citizens from &#8220;unfounded prosecution by foreign states and international institutions of justice,&#8221; Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka&#8217;s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said the deal is to protect current and former officials, among others, and pointed out &#8220;a trend of politicizing international judicial bodies and other international criminal justice mechanisms.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0141uka\u0161enka authorized the foreign ministry to negotiate the final deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A month ago, the International Accountability Platform for Belarus (IAPB) forwarded \u201cevidence and a legal analysis\u201d of \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s actions to the International Criminal Court\u2019s (ICC) prosecutors, focusing on the 2020 postelection protests and the crackdown that followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Lithuania submitted evidence to the ICC accusing Belarusian officials of orchestrating crimes against humanity since 2020.
