March 4, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The BySol Solidarity Foundation helped journalist Ksienija \u0141uckina, released under a pardon program last year, to leave Belarus, its head Andrej Stry\u017eak has said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A member of the opposition\u2019s coordinating council, \u0141uckina was arrested in December 2020 after her resignation from the Belarusian State Television and Radio Company. Two years later, she was given eight years in prison on charges of plotting to seize the state power.\u00a0Rights groups considered her persecution to have been politically motivated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the trial, \u0141uckina had asked the court \u201cfor mercy and humanity, to be allowed to return to society and benefit it, making amends in word and deed.\u201d She told the judge that she had a brain tumor and needed medical attention outside the prison walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reporter was released from prison last August under a pardon program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
