{"id":127848,"date":"2025-02-26T14:02:46","date_gmt":"2025-02-26T11:02:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/127848\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"prosecutors-commission-approves-30-requests-for-return-to-belarus-svied","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/127848\/","title":{"rendered":"Prosecutor\u2019s commission approves 30 requests for return to Belarus \u2013 \u0160vied"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>February 26, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> A special government commission set up two years ago to handle requests from political emigrants for return to Belarus has approved 30 of 241 applications, its head and Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied has told journalists after addressing the National Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of these, 20 applicants have already returned to Belarus, he added, noting that now even parents of young people who are afraid to return have started applying to the commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All those who have returned to Belarus with the commission\u2019s approval \u201care encouraged to tell the truth about their life abroad and attitudes towards Belarusians,&#8221; \u0160vied said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This statement is consistent with earlier assumptions by journalists that safe return of political emigrants may be conditional on interviews for propaganda stations, in which interviewees are told to cast Belarus in a positive light and countries that sheltered them in a negative light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opposition politicians have repeatedly warned exiled Belarusians that it was too dangerous to return because of the threat of persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hundreds of thousands of Belarusians fled their country amid a government crackdown on dissent following the 2020 political crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most Belarusian emigrants would return home if a new government came to power and reprisals ended, according the BEROC think tank\u2019s survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/124838\/\">Prosecutor\u2019s commission to keep issuing return permits for political exiles \u2013 \u0160vied<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February 26, Pozirk.
