February 13, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>A flying object has been shot down over Homiel shortly after midnight during Russia\u2019s drone attack on Ukraine’s Chernihiv region that borders Belarus, Flagshtok <\/em>reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Debris fell to the ground in the central and northeastern parts of the city, it said, citing eyewitness accounts. The explosion was reportedly heard as far as the suburbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities did not comment on the incident except for a post in a Telegram channel linked to the ideology department of the Homiel Regional Executive Committee that asked Homiel residents\u00a0to keep calm and wait for information from official sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last September, Belarusian air defenses downed several drones over Homiel. Later, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka admitted drone incursions and claimed that Belarusian air defenses shoot down UAVs regardless of their Russian or Ukrainian origin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler attributed the incursions to the low level of expertise of drone operators. Electronic warfare systems set the UAVs off course, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
