February 11, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Belarusians faction has urged the opposition Coordination Council to initiate negotiations on the exchange of two former Belarusian soldiers, one of whom was fighting for Ukraine and the other for Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The faction says that D\u017amitryj Anan\u010dyk served with the Russian army under a contract and was captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on December 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vasil Vieramiej\u010dyk, a former deputy commander of the Volat battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, was captured by Belarusian security services in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vieramiej\u010dyk participated in protests in Belarus in 2020 and then moved to Ukraine, where he was wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, after completing his service, Vieramiej\u010dyk was elected to the Coordination Council (the Belarusians faction) and co-founded the Association of Belarusian Veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Lithuania designated him as a threat to national security, citing his service in the Belarusian army in 2010\u20132016. He was issued a 30-month entry ban to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vieramiej\u010dyk was arrested by police in Vietnam and extradited to Belarus on November 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 27, human rights activists designated him as a political prisoner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Coordination Council in November called on the Ukrainian government to recognize Vieramiej\u010dyk as a prisoner of war and include him in the \u201cexchange pool.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
