February 9, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The International Accountability Platform for Belarus (IAPB) has forwarded \u201cevidence and a legal analysis\u201d of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s actions to the International Criminal Court\u2019s (ICC) prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uniting NGOs that collect evidence of human rights abuse in Belarus since 2020, the IAPB conducted interviews with witnesses and victims and compiled open-source evidence of crimes against humanity committed by Belarusian officials since May 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IAPB focused on 2020 postelection protests and the crackdown that followed, the ill-treatment of arrested, detentions, searches and other violations of fundamental rights of Belarusians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere remains a pressing need to combat impunity also through national investigations and prosecutions under the principle of universal jurisdiction to ensure that justice is served,\u201d said Andrea Huber, the IAPB head. \u201cThe Accountability Platform stands ready to provide evidence and analysis to national prosecutors who investigate international criminal law violations in Belarus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The submission follows Lithuania\u2019s referral to the ICC Prosecutor in September 2024, endorsed by 13 human rights organizations, including the IAPB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
