February 3, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A farewell ceremony has been held in Kyiv for Maryja Zajcava, a Belarusian volunteer who died fighting against the Russian occupation troops in Ukraine, Radyjo Svaboda<\/em> reported. She will be laid to rest at a cemetery in Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zajcava was killed in action near the eastern city of Bakhmut on January 17, one day after turning 24 years old. She was with Ukraine’s 2nd International Legion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A native of Homiel, she participated in protest rallies against electoral fraud in Minsk in 2020. On August 9, security forces wounded her with a flash-bang grenade. After several surgeries, she departed to the Czech Republic for treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Zajcava volunteered to fight alongside the Ukrainian forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 64 Belarusian volunteers have reportedly died in battles against Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
