February 2, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The National Bank of Belarus will continue “organizing a payment system for the digital Belarusian rubel” and “preparing comprehensive changes to the legislation” in 2025, said D\u017amitryj Kale\u010dyc, deputy chairman of the central bank’s board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulator’s press office quoted him telling a board meeting that the work will be carried out using “a software and hardware complex (a platform for the digital Belarusian rubel) operating on the basis of a blockchain technology.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official called it a “key infrastructure projects and initiatives in the field of payments and digital development in 2025.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The priorities include developing an “instant payment system” to pay for goods and services through QR codes, Kale\u010dyc said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July 2023, Kale\u010dyc said that the National Bank of Belarus, together with the country’s banking community, “plans to implement some significant initiatives soon, including the introduction of the Belarusian digital rubel (BDR),” a legal payment instrument with all the functions of money. Issued by the central bank, it will have “the same value as the cash and non-cash Belarusian rubel.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
