January 30, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) drill in September will be linked to the Zapad-2025 joint exercise involving some 13,000 troops from Belarus and Russia, the bloc\u2019s press office reports, citing Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Andrei Serdyukov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CSTO drill will include the Interaction 2025 exercise of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces, while Search 2025 and Echelon 2025 will focus on intelligence and logistics units’ training, respectively, he has told journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the Belarusian defense ministry said it notified all participating states of the Vienna Document of the Zapad-2025 drill, described as a highlight of the year designed to boost the Union State\u2019s defense system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late October, Andrej \u0141ukjanovi\u010d, commander of the Belarusian Air\/Air Defense Forces, said the exercise would be held in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live-fire operational and tactical drills are planned at training grounds in the two countries as part of the exercise, which will also include joint air drills, \u0141ukjanovi\u010d told STV <\/em>in an apparent reference to Zapad-2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Belarus and Russia held the Allied Resolve exercise in Belarus. Despite assurances by then-Foreign Minister U\u0142adzimir Makiej that all Russian troops would leave Belarus after the maneuvers, the contingent attacked Ukraine on February 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities in Minsk kept claiming peaceful intentions and denied the Belarusian army\u2019s involvement in combat operations but allowed Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions and supplied arms to the Kremlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk and Moscow set up the regional group forces in October 2022, months after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
