January 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The so-called presidential elections in Belarus “have nothing in common with a free and fair electoral process, as they are characterized by the absence of internationally recognized observers, total suppression of the opposition, destruction of the independent media, and increased repression depriving the people of Belarus of any opportunity to freely express their political will,” the Latvian Saeima said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deputies said that Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has lost all legitimacy from 2020 and the “elections” are only a symbolic gesture to keep the regime in power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this regard, the Saeima stated that it does not recognize them as legitimate. It condemned the systematic human rights violations by the Belarusian regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It demanded an immediate release of all political prisoners, an end to repression and compliance with international human rights obligations. The Saeima called on the international community to strengthen sanctions against the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime and resist any attempts to legitimize it on the international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
