January 23, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The Belarusian government spent 31.66 million rubels (about $9.67 million) on a clinic for the Committee for State Security’s (KGB) employees that was to be built in Minsk by late 2024, the analytical media project Digital Intelligence Team<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the clinic’s state-of-the-art equipment costs stood at 20.86 million rubels ($6.38 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The journalists pointed out that the clinic acquired a magnetic resonance imaging device for $3.89 million even though the same device can be purchased for about $1.3 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lack of transparency regarding equipment purchases \u201craises reasonable suspicion of dubious schemes and overpricing,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clinic’s interiors resemble a luxury hotel rather than a medical facility, it added, describing the construction of such a facility for the KGB agents and their families as “another blow” to Belarusians as the country\u2019s healthcare system faces strains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project demonstrates that Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and his officials prioritize strengthening \u201cthe backbone of their power instead of solving pressing problems,\u201d the report stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
