January 20, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Leaked official documents released by opposition intelligence prove significant labor shortage in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 1, 111,243 working-age people in the Minsk region were not employed in the economy, said a report from the regional prosecutor\u2019s office addressed to Tamara Kraso\u016dskaja, chairwoman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee’s Committee on Labor, Employment and Social Security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BelPol association of former security officers shared with Pozirk<\/em> a copy of the leaked document, dated July 26 and signed by the Minsk region’s First Deputy Prosecutor D\u017amitry Rudako\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the National Statistical Committee, the Minsk region’s economy employed 668,249 people during this period. Thus, the unemployed working-age population accounted for 14.3 percent. The document states that only 28,388 of the 111,243 people not employed in the region (25.52 percent) were invited to commissions assisting jobless people with employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only about 2,000 of those not employed in the region’s economy “are leading an asocial lifestyle,” the deputy prosecutor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document also contains details on the employment of people released from correctional facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 1, the Minsk region had 1,422 jobs reserved for those released but only 146 (10.27 percent) were taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only one former prisoner sought “a referral for professional training, retraining or advanced training.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lack of motivation among ex-cons for formal employment and the absence of an advanced system of preventive work with them results in the “low effectiveness of legislative measures intended to help them find suitable employment,” Rudako\u016d lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian authorities admit a shortage of workers in the labor market. Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka often raises this issue. For example, speaking on October 5 at the Da\u017eynki-2024 festival in Mika\u0161evi\u010dy, Brest region, he said that “thousands and thousands [of Belarusians] are slacking off.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pozirk<\/em> reported that Belarus\u2019 employed workforce fell by at least 20,000 last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
