January 16, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Poland’s Office for Foreigners reports that 42,000 Belarusians received residence permits in the country in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This represents a decrease of 29 percent from 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 347,000 foreigners received these permits. Belarusians took second place after Ukrainians (218,000) in terms of the number of documents issued, followed by nationals of India (10,000), Georgia (8,000) and Turkey (5,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, foreigners submitted over 510,000 applications for residence permits during the year (Ukrainians, 286,000; Belarusians, 48,000; Georgians, 19,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2021, more than 240,000 Belarusians have applied for permits to stay in Poland, the United Transitional Cabinet’s deputy head Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, who leads the National Anti-Crisis Management, told Pozirk<\/em>, citing data from the Polish interior ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of them, more than 140,000 have valid papers allowing them to stay in Polish territory, the politician said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, we reported that 2,600 Belarusians were given international protection in Poland in 2024 compared with 2,900 in 2023. Belarusians submitted 3,900 requests last year and 3,700 requests the year before last. One and a half hundred people received refusals in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians were the second largest group of foreigners by number of approved applications. Ukrainians lead with 7,000 requests and 3,900 positive decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of December 31, 2023, 118,562 Belarusian nationals lived in Poland with documents that legalized them in one way or another, according to the non-government Belarusian Solidarity Center. Of them, 69,399 people had temporary and 39,553 permanent residence permits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
