January 15, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The government plans to spend on real economy and public works projects about 6.5 billion rubels (about $1.9 billion) from the central and local budgets, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of this amount, authorities will allocate 2.2 billion rubels for national projects and more than 4 billion rubels for regional ones under the draft State Investment Program for 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a similar document for 2024, investment was slated at 2.1 billion rubels (about $645.7 million at the current exchange rate).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, the government plans to increase investment in dollar terms by a factor of 2.9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After receiving a report on the program on January 15, \u0141uka\u0161enka said that it is impossible to rely on Russia only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Russians’ forecast on key development indicators is extremely cautious: economic growth in the range of 1.5-2.5 percent, double-digit interest rates and a growing budget deficit,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The Belarusian government projects GDP growth of more than 4 percent in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It declared investment a key growth driver, planning to increase it by 8 percent. “We plan to use almost 50 billion rubels, about 18 percent of Belarus’ GDP,” the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Not bad,” \u0141uka\u0161enka reacted to these forecasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The government and the Presidential Administration see capital expenditures above 20 percent of GDP as the main goal. Only at this level will we be able to ensure economic growth in the future,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka pointed out that about 60 percent of investment goes toward real sector projects, about 20 percent toward housing construction, and another 20 percent toward engineering, transportation and social infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State media reported that officials did not approve the State Investment Program for 2025 at the meeting. \u0141uka\u0161enka has sent it for revision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
