January 13, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Belarus Solidarity Foundation (BySol) is aware of at least eight arrests at the Belarusian border of Belarusians who returned to the country for the Christmas and New Year holidays, foundation director Andrej Stry\u017eak said on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2024, exiled Belarusians reportedly received offers to return from emigration to Belarus from a special commission headed by Prosecutor General Andrej \u0160vied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, human rights activists said they knew of at least three arrests on criminal charges on return to Belarus as part of an arrangement with the commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commission “considering appeals from citizens of the Republic of Belarus abroad relating to their offenses” was created after officials met with \u0141uka\u0161enka in January 2023. He signed an edict to that effect on February 6. Political detentions upon entry into the country have been common in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
