December 31, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Fewer than 8.8 million people currently live in Belarus, follows from a letter by Stanis\u0142a\u016d Narkievi\u010d of the State Control Committee to the government that the BelPol association of former law enforcers shared with Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official wrote the document in November, reporting on fulfilling Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s order to provide \u201call consumers with quality drinking water\u201d by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water is currently supplied to 8.6 million people in the country with 98 percent of the population having access to drinking water, the letter says. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The real number of Belarus\u2019 population may be even lower as official statistics do not account for hundreds of thousands who have left the country over the past four years fearing politically-motivated persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
