December 16, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Suspected violators of fire safety requirements at the Viciebsk shopping mall “Belarus” have been arrested, the interior ministry reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday’s fire covered 2,000 sq. m at the mall. It took 90 rescuers more than four hours and 21 pieces of hardware to handle the emergency. More than 200 people were evacuated from the building. Sixteen were injured and four more applied for psychological help, according to authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry said its head Ivan Kubrako\u016d visited the suspects at a police station after meeting with D\u017amitryj Krutoj, the head of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State media quoted Krutoj alleging that numerous violations by the mall owners could have caused the blaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted problems with the power system, unauthorized redevelopment and financial violations. Problems with refrigeration equipment caused a fire there in 2020, but adequate measures to fix the fire extinguishing system have not been taken, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
